Men's Basketball Suffers Overtime Loss on the Road
The Oxford College of Emory University men's basketball team lost a narrow away contest to Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 73-72 in overtime on Friday evening.
The Eagles were led by sophomore captain Isaac Snyder who had a career night with 24 points to go along with 17 rebounds and five blocks. Fellow sophomores Sean Osei poured in 19 points and Justin Whitening scored 12 points.
The game had 14 lead changes in a back-and-forth affair as the Eagles led by 10 points at times in both halves, only to have Anne Arundel make impressive comebacks. The Eagles led 28 to 18 in the first period and 53 to 43 in the 2nd before the Riverhawks used a 10-0 run to tie the game in both halves. The Eagles shot only 32.5 percent from the field and 19 percent from 3-point range to go with 18 turnovers but still managed to control the game at times.
"We will learn from this game and get better," commented head coach Roderick Stubbs. "We did not shoot well and made critical mistakes in crunch time, but we competed well and played hard."
With the loss, Oxford falls to 1 and 1 on the year. The Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 5, against Shooting 4 Greatness. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m at Sandhills Community College. For information and updates, stay tuned at oxfordcollegeathletics.com.
