Men's basketball goes 1-1 during weekend games; defeats Andrew College
Tifton, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend after games against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Andrew College.
The Eagles came back to defeat Andrew College 71-63. Andrew College dominated the first half, leading Oxford by 15 points with a minute left in the first. After free throws from first-year Antonio Calabrese and sophomore Jason Kim and a three-pointer from sophomore Nicholas Yatros, the Eagles were down by eight at the half.
Oxford came back early in the second on a three-pointer by sophomore Ved Desai and two-pointers by Kim and sophomore Adeniyi Ogunlana.
The Eagles would build a small lead, but Andrew College always found a way to come back to tie. With around three minutes left in the game, the Eagles were able to finally pull away. Desai made a couple of field goals to keep Oxford on top.
Oxford did well at the free throw line, going 27-36 (75%), while Andrew College shot 50% from the line.
Desai led both teams in scoring with 23 points. He also had seven rebounds. Kim had 17 points and five steals, while sophomore Leo Etah had 12 points.
In the game against ABAC, the Eagles lost 91-81. After a tie early in the first, ABAC led for the entire game.
The top scorers for the Eagles were Etah with 28 points and Desai with 19.
Oxford is now 6-5 this season.
The Eagles will next face New Rock Prep on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. for the last game of the fall semester.
