Men's basketball defeats Sandhills Community College 92-88
Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team defeated conference team Sandhills Community College 92-88 at home.
Sophomore Ved Desai had a huge first half for the Eagles and led them to a 17 point lead at halftime. Desai had 27 points in the first, including five 3-pointers.
The Eagles had trouble scoring in the second, which led to Sandhills making a comeback. While Oxford didn't give up the lead, the team was up by only one point with seven minutes remaining.
With 12 seconds remaining, the Eagles had a two point lead. Sophomore Adeniyi Ogunlana was fouled and made two free throws to put the home team up by four. Sandhills missed a 3-pointer with seconds remaining and first-year Alex Straser rebounded the ball to secure the win for Oxford.
Desai scored a career-high 38 points, tied for fourth on Oxford's list of highest points in a game. He also had six 3-pointers. Sophomore Leo Etah scored 25 points and had six rebounds and six assists.
The Eagles are now 11-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Oxford's next game is against West Academy at home starting at 7 p.m.
