Men's tennis wins 12th national title; ninth in a row
Chattanooga, Tenn. - For the ninth consecutive season, the Emory Oxford men's tennis team are the NJCAA Division III champions.
The team competed in the Division III Men's Tennis Championship held at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is the team's 12th title overall.
In singles, first-years Daniel Naylor, Maanas Krishnaswami and sophomore Benjamin Xi won their championship matches. In second singles, Naylor defeated Mercer County Community College's Jake Tavel by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Xi faced Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester's Chase Rollins in third singles and won 6-3, 6-1. In flight 5, Krishnaswami defeated Mercer's Michael Satawa 6-3, 6-3.
The Eagles were also runners-up in first and fourth singles. Sophomore Daniel Bernard lost in flight 1 (6-3, 6-0) while first-year Andrew Wang lost 6-1, 7-6 (7-0) in his championship match. First-year Jerry He won in the flight 6 backdraw (6-0, 6-0) for third place.
The doubles team of Bernard/Xi won flight 1 over College of DuPage's Brandon Dumbell and Mohamed Lukmanji by a score of 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. In flight 3, Krishnaswmi and sophomore Nolan Ely beat RCSJ's Steven Bonilla and Jackson Huhn 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). In the second singles backdraw match, Naylor and Wang defeated DuPage 9-8 (7-1).
