Oxford, GA – The Emory Oxford women's soccer team was back in action against NJCAA Division I foe, Polk State College. The Emory Oxford Eagles were defeated 7-2.
At the beginning of the first half, Polk State jump out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes. After what seemed to be an injury to a Polk State player, sophomore Isabela Schmalz broke free and scored the Eagle's first goal of the season. Unfortunately, Polk State answered with two more goals before halftime with a 4-1 lead.
Early in the second half, the Emory Oxford Eagles went on the attack as freshman Louisa Gammill found Schmalz, who had an opportunity to score, but Polk State blocked the shot. However, within two minutes, Schmalz broke free again and netted her second goal of the game, bringing the score 4-2. Polk State ended up scoring three more times before the game ended.
"This was a tough game against a good opponent, but I am still proud of the effort my team gave," commented Head Coach Ruth Geiger.
The Emory Oxford Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, September 5th, against Motlow State Community College. Kickoff is set to begin at 10:00 AM.
