Barquet’s Header Keeps the Men’s Soccer Team Undefeated

Oxford, GA - In what turned out to be a physical and exciting contest, the Emory Oxford men's soccer team defeated NJCAA Division I foe, USC Sumter 2-1. The Eagles are now 6-0 for the season, while the Fire Ants drop to 5-5.

The Eagles struck first in the first half when freshman Jason Im broke free to score his fifth goal of the season. Oxford was able to hold off the Fire Ants and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Within the first three minutes of the second half, the Fire Ants was able to answer quickly and tie the game back up. In the 61st minute, USC Sumter looked like they would score but sophomore goalkeeper Zack Tuke tipped the ball into the air and freshman Parker Morford was able to kick it out before the ball could cross the line. The decisive goal came in the 82nd minute when sophomore captain Jack Moynihan crossed the ball into the box and fellow sophomore Eduardo Barquet headed it into the goal. 

"Against another tough team, our guys battled and competed extremely well to get this win," stated Head Coach Moss-Brown. "Although we are a little banged up from injury, I am proud of our team for continuing to fight through adversity." 

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 28) in a rematch against Meridian Community College. The game will begin at 5:00PM.
