The Oxford College of Emory University men's soccer team defeated the reserve squad of Georgia Military College 5-3. Sophomore Ryan Scholte led the Eagles with two goals, one in each half.
The Eagles scored the game's first goal in the 23rd minute, which came from a throw-in that led to Scholte's eighth goal of the year. The Bulldogs of Georgia Military would tie the game 1-1 in the 39th minute with a goal by Noah Miller. At the break, the score would remain 1-1.
In the second half, the Eagles scored an early goal by sophomore Alex Brown, assisted by sophomore Maxwell Shumway, to break the tie. However, Georgia Military would answer at the 58th-minute mark. With the game at 2-2, Oxford would score a flurry of goals to take a commanding lead. Scholte would record his second of the game with the help of Shumway in the 72nd minute. Ten minutes later, the Eagles drew a penalty shot which sophomore Carl Kassabian converted, resulting in his third goal of the year. The Eagles would take a 5-2 lead after sophomore Thomas Ehlers put one in the back of the net in the 85th minute. Georgia Military would score one more goal in the 90th minute before regulation ended.
Next, the Eagles will travel to Alabama to play Holmes Community College on October 9th. The game is set to begin at 4:00 PM EST.
