The Emory Oxford men's soccer team opened their season against NJCAA Division II Georgia Military College Reserve Squad. The Eagles lost 6-3 to the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Ryan Scholte led the Eagles with two goals, one in each half, while classmate Kenneth Kleiman scored the other goal.
The Eagles scored the first point of the match in the 12th minute when Scholte recovered a missed shot by one of his teammates and then netted his first goal. The Eagles played great defense for the rest of the half and went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Things turned in the second half as the Bulldogs delivered a flurry of goals scoring five unanswered. In the 80th minute, the Eagles would convert on a successful penalty kick by Scholte to cut into the lead. However, the Bulldogs would answer back with their sixth goal of the game. In the final minutes, the Eagles drew another penalty, converted by Kleiman.
The Eagles will play Spartanburg Methodist College on Wednesday, September 14th. Kickoff will be from Bivings Field at 6:45 PM.
